CRE RESPOND's Population Pharmacokientics Workshop returns to Brisbane this July
CRE RESPOND is excited to host the upcoming workshop, Population Parmacokinetics: From Fundamentals to Clinical Practice - a three day event taking place from 16-18 July at UQ Brisbane City, 308 Queen Street.
Participants from a wide range of disciplines - including pharmacists, infectious disease physicians, clinical pharmacologists, pharmaceutical scientists, and intensivists - will come together to build and refine their understanding of population pharmacokinetics in a clinical context.
Workshop Overview
Over three carefully structured days, attendees will engage in a blend of foundational theory, hands-on exercises, and clinical application:
- Day 1: Introduction to Pharmacokinetics and Population Pharmacokinetics
The workshop opens with a foundational session covering key principles of pharmacokinetics (PK), compartmental modelling, and population PK. Participants will gain practical experience identifying and extracting relevant data from publications and building datasets for us in PK software environments.
- Day 2: Model Building and Validation
Participants will learn the components of a model file, how to write differential equations, and the step-by-step process for developing a population PK model. The day concludes with sessions on model validation techniques - including goodness of fit plots, visual predictive checks and bootstrapping - and an introduction to Monte Carlo simulations for dosing optimisation.
- Day 3: Clinical Application of Population Pharmacokinetic Models
The last day will focus on applying population PK models in clinical settings. Sessions include demonstrations of software platforms for model development and hands-on software use. A demonstration of hospital dosing software will highlight best practices in clinical PK. An optional afternoon sessions offers participants the chance to apply workshop concepts to their own datasets with guidance from tutors.
Designed for a global audience, the workshop welcomes professionals from across research, healthcare, and industry to collaborate, upskill, and deepen their understanding of population pharmacokinetics.
Whether you're new to the field or looking to expand your model-building capbailities, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to learn from leaders in pharmacometics while using real-world tools in a supportive and interactive environment.
This is the fourth event in CRE RESPOND's 2025 education program, furthering its mission to deliver clinically focused, high-impact trainig for healthcare professionals and researchers working to combat antimicrobial resistance.
