Workshop programme
From 13 - 15 of September 2018 CRE REDUCE was proud to present another successful PK/PD Modelling Workshop at the picturesque St Lucia Campus at the University of Queensland, Brisbane. The workshop aimed to build capacity in pharmacokinetic modelling and dose optimisation of antimicrobials, oncology agents and immunosuppressants. It provided attendees with the fundamental principles underpinning PK and PK/PD modelling, as well as facilitating the practical approach to further PK and PK/PD research to ultimately improve patient dosing.
To that end, attendees of this workshop are now able to:
- Define PK and PK/PD structural models that can be solved analytically and models that require differential equations
- Analyse PK and PK/PD datasets
- Perform basic Monte Carlo simulations for PK/PD analysis
- Optimise dosing for an individual patient using dosing software
The 2.5-day workshop had an excellent International Faculty - A/Prof Michael Neely (Laboratory of Applied Pharmacokinetics and Bioinformatics), Dr Catherine Byrne (Royal College of Surgeons Ireland) and Dr Christina Koenig (The University Medical Centre, Hamburg, Germany).
The workshop was attended by 37 delegates from a variety of backgrounds including clinical pharmacist, intensive care physicians, microbiologist infectious diseases physicians, clinical pharmacologists, veterinarian and a neonatologist. The international expertise available facilitated many attendees to begin analysis of their own datasets and to begin planning future PK studies. The networking dinner at the Boatshed sowed the seeds for future collaboration between attendees and with the international experts.
The event was endorsed by the International Association of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring and Clinical Toxicology (IATDMCT), Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (SHPA), the Australian Society for Infectious Diseases (ASID) and the Queensland Statewide Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
We are very grateful to UQ's Faculty of Medicine and our industry sponsors for making the workshop possible.
