Severe bone and joint infections are associated with high morbidity and high health service costs. Parenteral antibiotic therapy is required in many patients to ensure positive treatment outcomes. Providing such therapy as part of outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT) or hospital in the home (HITH) programs is potentially a highly valuable approach to avoid long-term hospitalisation and the associated economic costs. In this webinar, experts in this area of healthcare will provide their opinion on how to use OPAT/HITH for optimised care of patients with severe bone and joint infections.

About OPAT Masterclass Webinar Series

Starting on March 19 2020, in partnership with our industry partners, we are delivering a series of four webinars focused on the Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT).

Each of the webinars will be broadcast live as well as recorded for later viewing or listening. The format will consist of four different topics at each of the webinars across four different cities around the country.

We will aim to cover both the clinical and academic components of each of the topics and allow time for live and online Q&A sessions.

Broadly, the four themes will be:

  • Pulmonary infections in outpatient setting (Online)
  • Infective endocarditis treatment in outpatient setting ( Online)
  • Infections of bone and joint in outpatient setting (Online)
  • Treating infections in cancer patients in an outpatient setting (Online)

OPAT in the context of the HITH  is increasing in popularity and usage globally and the need for information on practices and principles of its use are evident.
