Infective endocarditis is a severe infection associated with high morbidity and mortality. Parenteral antibiotic therapy is a mainstay of treatment with long courses of therapy (weeks) required to ensure positive treatment outcomes. As a means to avoid long-term hospitalisation and the economic costs to deliver such therapy, as well as the associated quality of life challenges, OPAT is a strategy which can assist more convenient and optimal treatment of infective endocarditis.
